All About Mrs. Witmer

Mrs. Jessica Witmer

I was born in Wellsboro, graduating from Wellsboro Area High School in 1995. As a young adult, ready to take on the world, I ventured away from our small town (as so many typically do), and moved to larger areas, in search of bigger and better things. I enjoyed “city” life for a few years, until I decided to start a family. I realized how much I enjoyed my childhood in Wellsboro, and I wanted my children to have the same experiences, so I returned home to raise my children.

I went back to college as an adult, ready to pursue my life-long dream of being a teacher. Having a very close friend receiving Special Education services during my high school years, I spent many splendid hours learning, volunteering, and socializing in the classrooms. I always knew I wanted to continue being a part of the Special Education family, so I was determined to be a teacher!

I graduated from Mansfield University with my Bachelor of Elementary and Special Education in 2010, and then earned my Master of Education in Children’s Literature in 2012, also from Mansfield University. I now live in Wellsboro with my husband and our four children. My husband and his family also own Canyon Country Reptiles, which is a pet store near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. As a family, we are active in school sports, music, and dance. We enjoy spending time together visiting new places, and have a particular interest in caves, having already seen many in Pennsylvania.

Personally, I enjoying being artistic and creating things - it is very soothing. I enjoy reading and spending time with my family. My favorite author has always been Dr. Seuss, so I have a nice collection of his work. I believe he had a strong voice with many positive messages to share with the world. I feel that attitude and determination have a great deal to do with a person's overall success and outlook.

I do my best to instill a love of learning in all my students. I want each of them to feel like they have the power to reach their greatest learning potential. I look forward to meeting new students every year and starting our journey together, as well as seeing how much further we can grow with the returning students.
