This is just an overview to let you know how AR works in our classroom:
Your
child may be coming home with books leveled from .2 through 4.0 or
higher. These levels should be written on the inside cover and there
should be a colored sticker on the binding of each book. The levels and
colors are as follows:
Yellow: .2 to .9
Green: 1.0 to 1.5
Pink: 1.6 to 2.0
Orange: 2.1 to 2.5
Red: 2.6 to 3.0
Blue: 3.1 to 3.5
Dark Green: 3.6 to 4.0
The
students will first start in at yellow and someone will help them read
and take the quizzes if needed. When they are able to read and take the
quizzes alone they will be required to get a 92% before moving on to the
next level, which would be bright green. You will be able to find the %
your child is at on the Progress section of the AR papers since home
weekly. The teachers will then move your child through the levels as
they continue to hold a 92% or better. When your child moves out of the
yellow level, they are required to read the quizzes and take them on
their own.
As
kindergarten and first grade teachers, we are trying to prepare them
for 2nd grade. They are required to do AR quizzes on their own when they
reach 2nd grade and they become a part of their reading grade.

Thank you and keep up the great job your doing reading each night with your child!
